Good Kids, Big Events & Matching T-Shirts invites youth leaders into a game-changing conversation. It helps them create and sustain a ministry to youth that is fueled by an effective, contagious relationship with God and others. Writer and youth worker David Hertweck makes great discoveries with fellow youth leaders while moving through three pivotal points:

Are youth becoming fluent in the gospel?

Are youth Spirit-dependent?

Do youth have biblical community?

Hertweck, a veteran youth worker, explains that if those who work in student ministry celebrate some wins while unintentionally missing the big picture—new life in Christ—students will believe the wrong things count. That could have enormous implications for how today’s kids live out their faith now and as adults.

When youth leaders choose to refocus on these values, they are heeding Jesus’ command to make disciples. The teens in their groups will thrive both now and later.

David Hertweck

Since February 2011, David Hertweck has served a major denomination in New York as their director of youth ministry. Previously, he served as a youth pastor for twelve years in upstate New York. He is currently completing graduate work at Northeastern Seminary for his MA in transformational leadership. He is the author of The Word and the Spirit. David is married to Erin and they have three daughters: Lilia, Caraline, and Madelaine. They currently reside in Syracuse, New York.

Whether you’re new to youth ministry or a veteran, you’ll find something here that will encourage and inspire you to better youth ministry.

L eadership isn’t the task of simply providing answers. Often, it’s about reframing questions. That’s exactly what David does in a heartfelt way in Good Kids.

T he challenge isn’t easy. We might not like what we find. But as David says, students’ lives are at stake. We can’t afford not to take this challenge and change this conversation
